As part of the Atkins strategy, we have a clear ambition to lead the transformation of the infrastructure sector by harnessing information management, data and technology across our services.  In this context we are seeking to appoint a Director for Data and Information Management, one of the ‘big jobs’ in our Infrastructure Division, to drive our transformation, expand our client services and create a vision and environment our people aspire to be a part of.

You will lead a tight team of Information Management (IM), Technologists, System Architects & Business Analyst (BA) specialists and your primary focus will be the development of services to our clients in area such as Asset Information, Digital Twins, Data Ecosystems, Digital Transformation Programmes, Common Data Environments and Data Analytics.

Additionally you will be the technical head of discipline for all of our IM & BA professionals across the division, establishing a culture and environment of development, progression and retention. You will also co-ordinate the activities of our project facing Information Management people from across our division, such that our future project delivery vision is established and delivered. Working closely with our Asset Management Systems team, our Design Transformation team and others across the division you will also participate in and shape our UK&E and Global Digital Operations communities to bring your expertise to bear and shine a light on our people and our success.

The role will report into the Asset & Information Management Director and can be flexibly based in any of our hub UK offices or from home with the commitment to travel to our clients and to collaborate whenever required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop the compelling Vision for our Information Management services across the Infrastructure business and how these will enable a differentiated service to our clients. This will align to market knowledge and research and makes sense as a business case.
  • Lead the development of Information Management services to our clients including service line development, production of compelling value propositions and client development.
  • Provide visionary leadership to our Information Skills professionals, creating an exciting environment and building an attractive team which promotes retention and development of talent.
  • Lead and inspire a tight direct team. Believe in and act upon the Atkins vision that ‘Different makes a Difference’ to recruit and develop top talent into this team to create an industry beating function.
  • Collaborate to create a vision for the project information services we provide to clients along side our design and non design projects. Lead the practice based communities of BIM professionals and develop them towards delivering this vision.
  • Create a community across the division where our Information professionals can come together, collaborate and develop.
  • Work well with others across the division and the entire UK and global business’ to ensure that we collaborate before we create, and that we deliver the best value to our clients.
  • Ensure on-going alignment between transformation projects, our strategy and various business functions and support teams
  • Work with key stakeholders to facilitate engagement and mobilisation of strategic partnerships particularly in relation to technology partners and data platforms.
  • Establish a clear pipeline of opportunities and develop these to generate new revenue streams for Atkins. Undertake Key Account Management in conjunction with our Client Directors.
  • Maintain an element of personal client delivery in order to stay connected and relevant, but prioritise the winning of work for the direct team and the wider business to be engaged with.
  • Ensuring our quality of delivery is exemplary and that our client’s satisfaction is in the promotor range
  • Establish and maintain a high level industry profile through industry bodies, media platforms, speaking at events etc. to raise the profile of Atkins and gain access to and involvement in cross industry iniciatives.
  • Own the development of the reference architecture for information management systems and lead the development of product owners for common data environments and influence the enterprise information management systems/strategy.
  • Leading our response to emerging government policies, such as the Construction Playbook,  Transforming Infrastructure Performance and the National Infrastructure Strategy and evolving our service delivery in response.

Key attributes:

  • Senior level experience and profile within a complex business
  • A team player, able to manage relationships and influence across a range of stakeholders, including C-suite
  • Experience in managing large programmes with multiple projects and teams of project leaders
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively the role of information, data and technology in our future business
  • Ability to understand and communicate a variety of business models with a focus on value-based selling
  • Understanding of key technology requirements specifically in relation to project & programme management, automation of design, and lifecycle data capture and management
  • Experience of alliances and partnerships, ideally in a technology environment
  • Experience of working across a global organisation and engaging teams across geographies and cultures
  • Knowledge of industry trends, including Digital Twins, with a focus on technology and data
  • Commercially astute with strong business acumen.
  • In depth understanding and track record in implementing International information management standards (ISO 19650) and aligned to the UK BIM Framework.
