Atkins Nuclear is currently seeking an ES&H Engineer to join the nuclear team in Oak Ridge, TN.


JOB DUTIES

  • Provide construction safety support for construction activities, subcontractor oversight and other projects as assigned.
  • Conduct studies and make recommendations related to potential or actual accident occurrences and hazards.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and possibly weekends.
  • Assist higher level Safety Professionals in the development and implementation of methods for accident prevention.
  • Advise Company personnel on matters concerning occupational safety, safety codes, and accident prevention programs.
  • Assist field supervision in providing instruction or instructional material on accident prevention to subordinate personnel. Inspect work sites to identify potential or existing job hazards. Investigate accidents, including those involving vehicles, to determine relevant causes.
  • Ensure timely and orderly completion of inspections, investigations, or reports.
  • Serve as a communication point for occupational safety requirements and practices as assigned.
  • Maintain awareness of current additions or revisions to safety codes and standards and applies to work responsibilities as necessary.
  • Work performed under this task may require the contractor and its personnel to gain access to classified and restricted DOE/NNSA data, systems, and facilities. For this reason, the contractor personnel may be required to
  • obtain and maintain and possess a DOE/NNSA Q Clearance.

REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Must be able to interface with government program representatives on high-level technical and project issues.
  • Ability to successfully make quick decisions and meet goals while working under severe time constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to be creative with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills, including the use of process equipment design software and Microsoft Office
  • Detailed knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application
  • Detailed knowledge of industry codes and regulations

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree required; preferred in engineering, OS&H, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or other related discipline
  • 7 years of experience is required
  • Must have experience working on nuclear design and construction projects.
  • Must have experience working within the Dept of Energy Complex
  • Must have experience with ESH controls and systems in use at UPF or other DOE projects is a plus Knowledge and experience of uranium processing
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in their discipline preferred
  • Direct work or oversight experience on large construction contracts is preferred
