We are hiring! AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern to join our Lynnwood, WA (Seattle area) office.

Our Internship Program is designed for college students pursuing a degree in a STEM field and provides opportunities to learn what it’s like to work in a professional environment and apply what’s learned in class to the real-world challenges we face every day.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Contribute to geospatial analyses, data creation/compilation, and flood study administrative processes led by other AtkinsRéalis staff.
  • Under the direction of GIS Analysts or water resources engineers, help implement FEMA’s Risk, Mapping, Assessment and Planning (Risk MAP) program which has the primary purpose of mapping the nation’s flood risk by creating/updating Flood Insurance Rate Maps, or flood maps.
  • Examples work conducted by AtkinsRéalis professional GIS Analysts and water resources engineers for which this GIS Intern position may provide support includes:
  • GIS-based conversion of hard-copy Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) data to digital format.
  • Processing and posting flood hazard GIS data to online AGOL viewers.
  • GIS-based flood study impact assessments/structure counts.
  • GIS support for public meetings for public review of proposed changes to flood hazard data.
  • Ad-hoc GIS analysis, mapping and support to FEMA as needed.

What will you contribute?

  • EXPERIENCE: 0-2 Years experience in a related technical field.
  • EDUCATION: Must have completed 60 hours towards a Geographic Information Systems, geography, planning, environmental sciences, engineering, or other degree with partial coursework in or related to the application of geospatial analysis techniques using the ESRI software suite by the start of the internship (Summer 2024).
  • SPECIAL SKILLS: Must have hands-on experience with ESRI ArcGIS (Desktop or Pro) software; good math skills and analytical thinking capabilities; computer skills to enter data into spreadsheets or databases; and willingness to learn. Knowledge of engineering modeling and mapping techniques for flood studies is desired but not required.
  • PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS: None.

Expected compensation range is between $19-$25 hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
