We are seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Global Minerals & Metals (M&M) team and to support our growth to align with the demand to supply responsibly sourced critical minerals. The Geotechnical Engineer will participate in multidisciplinary teams to design civil engineering works related to the containment of mine tailings. Supported by a team of engineers as well as by CADD technicians, the engineer will be involved in all stages of the design of structures, from concept to construction. The tasks also include participating in technical reviews (e.g. peer reviews), tailings dam inspections, dam safety reviews, and other studies related to the design and construction of mine waste facilities.

This opportunity will be to support the M&M business located in any of the major cities of Canada: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto.

Your role within the team:

  • Participate in the design of tailings dams.
  • Prepare technical drawings and specifications.
  • Support senior engineers with field evaluations, manage and contribute to geotechnical investigations, and undertake design assessments and complex analysis calculations.
  • Complete geotechnical analyses using various specialized software's such as GeoStudio, Rocscience, PLAXIS, FLAC, etc.
  • Participate in the preparation of service proposals.
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals/cost estimates and participate in the process of securing new business opportunities or expanding the scope of existing projects.
  • Analyze and prepare recommendations and engineering reports for projects related to dams and mine waste management, foundation design recommendation, infrastructure, shoring, retaining walls, slope stability, road structure design, dikes and dams, materials testing, and other geotechnical related projects.

The ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree or advance degree in Geological, Civil (with geotechnical focus), Geotechnical, Geo-environmental or related field
  • Registered as Professional Engineer in Ontario or be eligible for P.Eng status in any Canadian province.
  • 5+ years of experience in dike and dam design.
  • Knowledge of slope stability analysis, flow analysis, and stress-strain software (e.g. GeoStudio, FLAC, Plaxis, etc.). Experience in dynamic and seismic analysis.
  • Fluent in English; Spanish proficiency would be an asset.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $93,400- $128,400 annually) (Only Applicable to British Columbia). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
