MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

SNC-Lavalin is currently recruiting a Process Engineer for their Engineering Team based in Vanderbijlpark and Secunda. The role as Head of the Process department, as well as design and development of Process designs and layout's for petrochemical plants, refineries, off-site areas, oil & gas, infrastructure and metals and mining projects.

EDUCATION & SKILLS:

  • Minimum of a completed Degree in Process Engineering (Bsc (Chemical) or B.Eng (Chemical)
  • Minimum 10 years Process experience
  • Must be computer literate (MS Office Suite)
  • Registered as professional Engineer (advantageous)
  • Must have good technical writing skills
  • Knowledge in Aspen Hysys (advantage)
  • Proficient in AFT Fathom, Arrow and Impulse
  • Minimum 3 years management experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Process Engineer shall be responsible for the development and quality of all documents and drawings under the process engineering discipline remit.  The Process Engineer is also responsible for the budgets and schedule associated with the process discipline scope of work.  He/she shall be responsible for the identification of, and allocation of all required resources to tasks for the executing of his/her responsibilities in accordance with the project schedule and quality requirements. The Process Engineer shall also be the primary counterpart interface with the client project engineering discipline representative. The Process Engineer must at all times be cognizant of the cost of the design and ensure that technical decisions are made such that the project scope criteria are met while minimizing the resultant cost of the design. The Process Engineer is responsible for all activities associated with the specific discipline, including:

  • Scope Management
  • Scope Identification & Optimization
  • Technical Quality
  • Value Engineering & Cost Avoidance
  • Technical Bid Analysis
  • Statutory and Project Code Compliance
  • Discipline Drawing Register
  • Drawing & Document Production
  • Interdisciplinary Checking & Squad Checks
  • Cost, Schedule and Change Management
  • Process Hazards Analysis
  • Maintainability & Operability
  • Constructability in Engineering
  • Design Reviews
  • Discipline Subcontractor Management
  • Technical Management of Vendors
  • Inspection & Testing
  • Commissioning & Start-up manuals
  • As-built Documentation
  • Managing and allocation of Process department resources
  • Planning and managing of the Process department resource development
  • Maintaining the manpower forecast and leveling (MFL) for the Process department
  • Conducting departmental audits
  • Management and conducting of performance reviews
  • Overall development of the Process department
  • Validation and sign-off on Process design calculation templets
  • Overall Process department quality
  • Providing resourcing and cost estimated on tenders and projects
  • Alignment with PEMs on resourcing requirements on all projects
  • Provide assistance and input in the resolution of any quality related issues within the Process department
  • May need to function as discipline lead on projects as and when required

As part of the conceptual, basic and detail engineering in a project, the Process Engineer is responsible for all aspects including, but not limited to the following documentation deliverables:

  • BFDs and PFDs
  • P&IDs / MFDs
  • Process Studies
  • Mass Flow Studies
  • Mass & Energy Balances
  • Process Data Sheets
  • Hazardous Area Layouts
  • Hazop Studies
  • Hydraulic Studies

Location: Vanderbijlpark, with regular visits to the Secunda office

Duration: Limited Duration Contract
