As an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer, you will work with AtkinsRéalis Mechanical Engineering Design Group to provide detailed engineering for building services projects for commercial, institutional and industrial clients.

Your role within the team

To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Undertaking and reporting on technical studies, detailed design, multi-discipline coordination, project implementation, and client liaison.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering design teams to ensure a timely and accurate completion of project.
  • Provide detailed engineering and calculations for industrial/mining and building services projects.
  • Calculation of pressure piping system pressure, flow and pump power requirements as well as material handling system loading and power requirements. Piping and mechanical system stress analysis setup and review of results in conjunction with stress analysis specialists and senior mechanical engineers. 
  • Calculation of airflow system pressure, flow and power requirements as well as fresh air, cooling and heat recovery requirements.
  • Sizing and selecting equipment for pressure piping systems, ventilation systems, dust collection and material handling systems.
  • Maintain departmental standards, to satisfy client standards, and to thoroughly incorporate regulatory requirements in all activities.

The ideal candidate

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the province of Manitoba, with an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5-9 years of experience progressive experience on building services projects as a Mechanical Engineer, a Project Engineer and/or a Project Manager.
  • Solid understanding of standard engineering methods, technologies and computerized design techniques, as well as knowledge of the interaction with other engineering disciplines and fields of work and have an understanding of applicable regulatory requirements in Canada. Specific detailed design experience with any of: tanks and pressure vessels; piping systems; materials handling systems; process equipment; steam systems; compressed air systems; and/or utilities design would be preferred.
  • Ability to appropriately gauge the level of effort necessary to provide solutions to our clients; this will be necessary in the development of proposals for services and in committing to scope and schedule as a team. Customer focused team player who is quick to learn and keen to lead or follow as it best serves our client’s interests.
  • Computer Skills - MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
