Take our vision into the future.

Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining our talented team, where everyone has a voice, and together we face our clients' problems head-on. It's a diverse and inclusive work environment where world-class talent knows no distinctions.

We know that different people have different priorities, which is why we're here to support you. Flexible and remote working is a central part of our culture. So talk to us about what's ideal for you – from reduced weeks to buying more leave over school holidays. And if you're returning from a career break, ask us how we can help you transition back into work with us.

Bring your skills to the mix as a Senior Civil Structural Engineer. You'll play a vital role in every aspect of civil engineering on Transformational Programmes for critical UK infrastructure with opportunities to work on iconic engineering projects overseas. You'll be able to advance your career in the direction that interests you across energy, water, security & defence. We're big on expertise but not on hierarchy. So, we'll trust you with more responsibility faster, supporting your career to the next level.

Your purpose:

We are looking for a Part Time Civil or Structural Engineer to join our growing team in our Manchester office to work on a wide range of projects including STEP (Spherical Tokomak for Energy Production) Fusion power plant, SMR (Small Modular Reactor), NEOM, Sizewell C, SPA (Strategic Pipeline Alliance), United Utilities, HS2 (High Speed 2) and supporting the full lifecycle of the UK CASD (Continuous At Sea Deterrent).  You will enjoy cultivating strong working relationships and developing your technical skills and management expertise to deliver outstanding results for our clients.

  • Your experience in any of the following would be beneficial to the role but not all are required to apply.
  • You have a relevant level of professional experience which could be derived from civil-structural design and analysis (steelwork and reinforced concrete) or design consultancy.
  • You can undertake and/or review the design of new building structures.
  • You can work collaboratively from our offices and across our client sites to understand clients’ needs and deliver to time, cost and quality.
  • Previous experience in the water, nuclear, defence, energy or other highly regulated markets would be beneficial, but we recognise many skills are transferrable across industries, and are keen to hear from candidates from a range of civil and structural engineering consultancy backgrounds.

What you can bring?

The ideal candidate is a Professionally Qualified Civil or Structural Engineer (CEng or IEng) who has prior experience in design consultancy in the delivery of major infrastructure projects where you used your problem-solving skills to undertake technical design work following relevant design standards and codes.

In this job you will:

  • Apply your knowledge and experience, either working independently or supervising a team, to undertake technical design and analysis for both new build and existing steel, reinforced concrete, or masonry civil structures, using appropriate structural analysis and design packages, following local and national guidance.
  • Collaborate and form relationships with others at all levels, both inside and outside AtkinsRéalis to support multi-disciplinary project delivery.
  • Install high levels of quality, and consider sustainability and safety, at all stages of the design and asset lifecycle.
  • Support the preparation of briefs, scopes of work, and input into bid proposals.
  • Successfully manage time and budgets to project milestones and programmes.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of yourself and others, by actively participating in AtkinsRéalis and D&AT practice including our technical networks, staff networks and other company ED&I (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) and digital initiatives.

What we offer?

AtkinsRéalis recognise that there are many well qualified people who are looking to further their career, but who cannot commit to full time employment. We support flexible working arrangements and are interested to discuss how we can accommodate individual requirements.  As part of this commitment, we understand the need for a diverse and flexible workforce, where a work-life balance is important. So, by default AtkinsRéalis offers flexible working, where there is no fixed 9 ‘till 5, no need for a 5-day week, no requirement for a full-time contract, and no requirement to spend all your working time in the office.

Rewards and Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary that is regularly tested against other consultants with a default 25-days leave each year plus bank holidays and options to buy some or sell of that leave. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
