We are hiring! AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Resilience Planner to join our Alexandria, VA. office.

The selected candidate will reside within the Water Engineering Technical Professional Organization (TPO) and supporting Water Infrastructure Solutions Business Unit and work collaboratively with company leadership and technical professionals to increase AtkinsRéalis integrated hazard resilience resources.

This individual must have background and passion for community resilience planning, policy, and technical analysis in multi natural hazard mitigation and climate change adaptation. Areas of technical focus for this position include but are not limited to floodplain management, training, outreach geospatial analysis, hazard mitigation, community planning, technical writing and document publication, research and planning related to Federal agencies (DHS-FEMA, EPA, USACE), state agencies, and local communities.  In short, we are looking for people that have desire to join growing organization dedicated to developing solutions and make a legacy in building a better future for people and our planet.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • A positive attitude, willingness to collaborate with teammates, results-oriented and eager to learn and develop technical capabilities along a progressive career development tract.
  • Develop technical solutions and programmatic improvements related to multi-hazard resilience and mitigation projects within federal, state, and municipal agencies.
  • Interact with client and project stakeholders, facilitate meetings, deliver presentations and coordinate agenda topic and post meeting action items.
  • Prepare plans, studies, reports, guides, and other technical documents Develop and conducts public outreach for community resilience projects, both virtual and in-person.
  • Research, analyze, and develop effective hazard mitigation policy and design solutions for local, state, and federal clients.
  • Apply principles of social equity and environmental justice to technical and strategic work.
  • Provide technical production of project deliverables and operations support.
  • Responsible for the compilation of data and the preparation of reports.
  • Coordinates operation within organization unit to ensure consistency with policies and procedures.
  • Must have good computer skills and be able to utilize standard office software’s.

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor’s in Planning, Policy Analysis, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or another related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Bachelor’s in Geography, Engineering, Planning, Policy Analysis, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or another related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written and visual formats technical information related to natural hazards and resilience in projects, presentations, and papers.
  • Ability to facilitate community outreach and engagement meetings with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience researching, planning, and developing operational and tactical plans, policies, procedures, and guidance to promote resilience and mitigation.
  • 2-9 years of experience.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and function both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Well-developed time management skills, especially the ability to complete high-quality, detail-oriented deliverables on tight timelines amid competing deadlines within a diverse work group.
  • Thorough understanding of the National Flood Insurance Program, Risk MAP, CRS, HMTAP and BRIC programs.
  • Knowledge of water/flood and natural hazard analysis and regulatory issues, nature based solutions, building sciences, building codes, economic analysis, environmental and historic preservation (preferred).
  • Knowledge of industry trends in disaster and community resilience activities at non-profit, NGOs and related associations
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills; outstanding attention to detail.
  • Prior experience developing training course content, outreach materials, written publications, and presentations.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint, and Access.
  • Familiarity with GIS (ArcPro, QGIS, etc.,) is preferred.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager or AICP.

Expected compensation range is between $85,000 - $120,000 annually OR $41.00 - $57.00 hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.

Upon acceptance of an offer, all candidates must go through a drug screen test and background check. AtkinsRéalis is a federal contractor which mandates a satisfactory background screening report and drug test that supersedes state laws.
