We are seeking a Rock Mechanics Engineer to join our Global Minerals & Metals (M&M) team and to support our growth to align with the demand to supply responsibly sourced critical minerals. The Rock Mechanics Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering team and will be involved in a small- and large-scale projects across the country and internationally. The engineer will be supported by intermediate and junior engineers as well as by CADD technicians and will act as a technical reference for projects where rock mechanics expertise will be required. The work will also include participating in technical reviews (e.g. peer reviews), on the rock engineering projects dealing with rock face stability, open pit design recommendation, tunneling, and underground excavations in rock, foundations, and rockfall hazards.

This opportunity will be to support the M&M business located in any of the major cities of Canada: Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto.

Your role within the team:

  • Lead and manage delivery of open pit and underground mine geotechnical services projects.
  • Complete statistical analyses and interpretation of drill and laboratory data to characterize material properties for use in geotechnical design.
  • Complete geotechnical analyses with a focus on rock mechanics and provide technical expertise in your specialization.
  • Maintain existing client relationships and develop new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and provide recommendation related to the rock mechanics.
  • Mentor junior staff across the business in the interests of their long-term career objective
  • Oversee all aspects of the project lifecycle (proposal, contract, scope of work, technical quality, and senior review) and consulting with appropriate peers.

The ideal candidate:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mining, or geology, coupled with a post-graduate qualification in geotechnical engineering with focus on rock mechanics.
  • 10+ years of experience in projects focusing on rock engineering, encompassing expertise in rock face stability, open pit design, tunneling, and underground excavations in rock environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in rock mass characterization and the evaluation of geological/geotechnical conditions with a comprehensive understanding of engineering consultancy and design markets, including client relationships and work planning approaches.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or eligible for P.Eng status in any Canadian province.
  • Proficient in utilizing numerical modeling software, including but not limited to Rocscience (Dips, SLIDE, RS2, Examine 3D), Map3D, and Itasca (FLAC2D/3D, UDEC).

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $93,360 - $128,370 annually) (Only Applicable to British Columbia). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
