Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Pensacola, FL office as a Senior Civil Engineer (Highways or Drainage).

 
 

MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

 

Under direction, provides the expertise of a seasoned engineer for all aspects of civil/transportation engineering.  Applies advanced concepts and techniques to unconventional engineering problems. May function as the lead technical engineer or project manager for civil and transportation projects.  Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.

 
 

JOB DUTIES

 
  • Performs project designs utilizing Microstation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D and coordinate production efforts on large projects with other junior engineers, CAD designers or technicians.
  • Perform project drainage designs with AdICPR and ASAD or coordinate with other staff regarding the drainage design for projects.
  • Plans and reviews the production of engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Plans and reviews the production of engineering projects.
  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for new projects, weighing alternatives and selecting the most cost-effective solution.
  • Analyzes technical problems, assessing the feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions.
  • Analyzes project scope and prepares or oversees the preparation of cost and manpower estimates, schedules and job budgets.
  • Compose technical reports, memorandums and other written communication.
  • Coordinates work with project manager and guides junior professionals and technical personnel on the design and drafting of preliminary and final plans.
  • Is responsible for quality control, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, and checking computations or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others.
  • May occasionally manage projects.
  • Performs other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
  • On time and regular attendance. Must be willing to work flexible schedule and overtime as needed by company needs.
  • Following Company policies and procedures regarding safety and quality.
 
 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


B.S. or M.S. in Engineering. M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Engineers with seven years of experience since B.S. or 6 years since M.S. Typical applicant shall have ten to fourteen years of experience.

 
 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

Proven technical writing and communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate both oral and written with clients, agency staff, permitting staff, public officials, team members and the public. 

 

Applicant may be eligible for project management training.

 
FDOT Roadway and Drainage Design Experience
 

Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.

 

Proficiency in Microstation, Geopak, FDOT SS4, 3D Modeling, AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desired.  Knowledge of ASAD, AdiCPR, HECRAS, HY8, PONDS is desired. 

 

FDOT Advanced Traffic Control Plans certification a plus.

 

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project is desired.

 
 

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

 

Florida P.E. license is required; or ability to achieve in 3 months.

 
 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Knowledge of FDOT Florida Design Manual, FDOT Drainage Manuals, FDOT Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) procedures is desired.  Knowledge of Florida Greenbook standards and AASHTO standards is critical.
