We are seeking a Senior Corrosion Engineer to join our Los Angeles, CA office. This opportunity is available for remote work or anywhere there is an AtkinsRéalis office.

Atkins is looking for Senior Corrosion Engineer to be part of our Rail & Systems Team. This position will report to the Atkins Traction Electrification Technical Manager. The successful candidate may be assigned to support more than one project at different phases.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Subject matter expert on Corrosion Control and Stray Current mitigation for Electrified Rail Projects. Candidates should provide verifiable experience leading and owning the design of Stray Current and Cathodic Protection Systems for Rail System.

  • Provide Design and Engineering Services during Construction for Stray Current, Corrosion Control and Grounding for Light Rail Project. This will include providing responses to contractor’s Requests for Information (RFI’s), reviewing and approving contractor’s shop drawings, product data and test results, and leading the effort on requests for changes to the design.

  • Develop rail stray current mitigation design for trackwork and facilities. Hands on experience developing and coordinating designs with track and multi discipline teams including civil, utilities, structures, etc.

  • Coordinate cathodic protection design with utility companies and coordinate to obtain their Approvals.

  • Develop pre and post construction Stray Current Baseline Studies on rail projects.

  • Develop corrosion control test program plans and procedures.

  • Perform stray current and corrosion control field testing and inspection.

  • Represent Atkins at selected NACE, IEEE and similar stray current, corrosion and grounding industry working groups and events.

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree from ABET Accredited Program including Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 15 years of experience in the rail and transit industry with minimum of 10 years of Corrosion Control engineering related experience.

  • NACE CP4 Certification – Cathodic Protection Specialist 4.

  • Professional Engineer License (PE) preferred or EIT with clear path to obtain the PE.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Skilled written communicator, capable of preparing clear, concise correspondence and reports.

  • Ability to work with multiple team members, management, construction contractors, vendors and internal/external customers.

  • Experience coordinating work with multiple disciplines and contractors on design team during design phases, and with multiple contractors during construction phases.

  • Successfully identify, manage, and provide solutions to highly technical and complicated issues with minimum detrimental impact to other groups.

  • Able to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of rail transit industry standards, practices, and regulations, railway operations, system safety, and associated requirements for rail projects.

  • Verifiable experience in performing inspection and testing of stray current and cathodic protection systems, including testing and commissioning.

  • Field experience on electrified rail systems during construction and commissioning phases, or during active revenue service.

  • Experience working on both AC and DC electrified transit systems.

  • Ability to Travel to support project demands.

Expected compensation range is between $105,000 - $175,000 annually/hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
