Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineer

The Senior Infrastructure Operations Engineer position is a hands-on role to manage, monitor and support the Server Infrastructure (physical & virtual), VMware, backup solutions and DHCP services. Working within the Enterprise Compute Operations Team within the Infrastructure Division you will provide support with monitoring the services, resolving incidents, implementing customer requests, delivering on projects, and providing operational support & services.

This role would be suited to an individual who has experience with supporting & monitoring a large Infrastructure environment, someone who has proven experience troubleshooting issues within a large (3000+VM’s, 300 + Esxi Hosts, Multi-Region) environment.

High Level responsibilities

Windows and VMWare:

  • Installation and Configuration: Installing and configuring the VMWare software and infrastructure components, including servers, databases, and applications.
  • Virtual Machine Management: Managing virtual machines and their delivery in the VMWare environment. This includes creating, configuring, and managing virtual machines, templates, and snapshots.
  • Storage Management: Managing storage resources and configuring storage policies for virtual machines in the VMWare environment.
  • Network Management: Configuring and managing virtual networks in the VMWare environment, including virtual switches, network adapters, and other network components.
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Monitoring the performance of the VMWare infrastructure, identifying performance bottlenecks, and optimizing the infrastructure for better performance.
  • Security Management: Ensuring the security of the VMWare infrastructure, including implementing security policies, configuring firewalls and other security settings, and conducting security audits.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution: Identifying and resolving technical issues in the VMWare environment, including server failures, virtual machine crashes, and other issues.
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery: Implementing and managing backup and disaster recovery solutions for the VMWare environment, ensuring the availability and integrity of critical data and applications.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Documenting the VMWare infrastructure, SOPs, creating reports on system performance and usage, and communicating with management and other stakeholders about the status of the VMWare environment.
  • Supporting and monitoring the global infrastructure server environment using vRops, HP One View and SCOM.
  • Capacity management:
    • For infrastructure server resources, both reporting and responding to incidents from either users or our alerting systems.
    • Managing, supporting, monitoring Windows & VMware ESXi Servers.
    • Deploy, configure, and maintain Windows servers, ensuring stability, security, and optimal performance.
    • Manage DNS, DHCP, DFS and other Windows server-related services.
    • Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for Windows server-related issues.
    • Configure and maintain Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC) environments, including cluster nodes, shared storage, quorum configuration, and networking. Diagnose, and resolve issues related to failover events, resource failures, or other cluster-related problems to minimize downtime.
    • Sever Build and Decommissioning.
    • Coordinate with Hardware vendors for server hardware issues.

Hyper-V Systems Administration:

  • Installation and Configuration: Deploy, install, configure, and maintain Hyper-V servers, clusters, and related infrastructure components.
  • Virtualization Management: Manage and administer Hyper-V virtual machines, including resource allocation, performance tuning, and monitoring.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve Hyper-V infrastructure issues, including performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and resource utilization concerns.

Hardware HPE C7000/Synergy 12000  Management:

  • Expertise in managing HPE C7000 Enclosures, including blade server configurations, networking modules, and storage.
  • Perform hardware upgrades, firmware updates, and troubleshoot enclosure-related issues.
  • Manage and optimize HPE Synergy 12000 Frames, encompassing compute modules, storage, and networking.
  • Configure and deploy Synergy Frames to meet infrastructure demands, ensuring scalability and performance.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Continuous service improvements: Initiate, own and implement service improvements including automation that can improve processes, reduce outages, incidents, make environment more stable, reduce effort required to support, minimize/mitigate risks, improve customer satisfaction etc.
  • Be available for on call support during non-business hours including on weekends based on business requirements

Experience and skills requirement:

  • Primary skills requirement – Windows, Vmware:
    • Should be working in operation from 6 years as a L3 Engineer supporting Windows VMware Infrastructure.
    • Supporting at least 2000+ server environment.
    • Windows virtualization administration.
    • Windows 2012/2016/2019 server platform.
    • Managing, supporting, and monitoring of VMware vSphere environment (6.x/7.x).
    • Managing and monitoring server hardware (HPE server hardware).
    • Proactive maintenance and responding to user incidents.
    • L1/L2 /L3 troubleshooting of infrastructure issues and fixing the alerts.
    • Experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory.
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Experience with working with other teams across the globe.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
    • Certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) are a plus.

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
