We are looking for someone to join our Global Legal Support services (GLSS) team to lead the development and training of the team. GLSS is a team of regionally situated and globally mobilised professionals who service the day-to-day legal needs of our diverse business, and those of the wider legal team.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the development and training of legal professionals: This is a truly unique opportunity to design, create and implement a training and accreditation programme to a global team of legal professionals. The successful candidate will work with the Legal Director for the GLSS team and a variety of stakeholders to determine the priority legal services and develop the training programme accordingly. The successful candidate will also oversee allocation of work and with this insight expand, focus and continuously update the training materials.

This is a full-time role, but we are open to candidates who are looking for 4-days a week. This role can be largely home-based or hybrid (with numerous regional UK offices). We also offer considerable flexibility in terms of working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Alongside the Legal Director for GLSS, develop a structured training programme and training materials to enable team members to become accredited in reviewing certain legal documents. The training materials will include a mixture of playbooks, training videos and practice examples.
  • Deliver the training programme and manage an accreditation process.
  • Overall management and oversight of team capacity, ensuring efficient turnaround times with a focus on maximising the global coverage of the team.
  • Analyse the requests for support from the business and wider legal team and continuously adapt and update the training programme to ensure GLSS team have the relevant skillset.
  • Day-to-day support to the GLSS team and supervision of contract and other legal document reviews.
  • Identify, develop, and lead ongoing lunch and learn style training on a variety of relevant topics for the GLSS team.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders, namely regional legal leads, and key internal clients, with regards to their legal support services needs.
  • The role will not include personal project / legal work or reviews, other than in limited or urgent situations. All legal work will be the supervision of mandates carried out by the GLSS team.
  • We champion and encourage flexible working and hours. Candidates will be expected to manage their own time and schedules to enable them to be available for a global team.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales (although qualifications from another common law jurisdiction will be considered).
  • The ability and relevant experience to supervise low to medium risk legal work, including contract reviews, drafting, advice, research tasks.
  • Experience in any of the following areas: construction, engineering services, projects, intellectual property, commercial contracts.
  • Experience in and passion for training and development of colleagues, team members or direct reports.
  • Sound commercial judgment and risk appetite.
  • A proactive individual with an ability to connect, influence and collaborate at all levels across multiple geographies and practices.
  • A finisher-completer who can report on progress, identify blockers and complete a project in a timely way.
  • An interest in engineering, design, sustainability, and technology.
  • A resilient individual who is able and willing to think laterally and find solutions to challenges that may hinder progress.

Desired:

  • Experience working in a legal or commercial function in a large organisation, especially in a construction, engineering or professional services setting.
  • Experience working as a professional support lawyer (or equivalent).
  • Experience in working in a legal operations function or role.
  • Experience and/or interest in legal design or information design.
  • Experience and/or interest in legal technology or data analytics.
  • Experience developing training materials and/or providing training to other legal professionals or students.
  • Teaching or training experience.
  • Language skills (especially French).
