Join us as a Radiation Shielding or Criticality Safety Engineer in our Nuclear & Power Division, and play a vital role designing complex new schemes to protect our clients' assets. There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all career plan in Atkins. And with a huge variety of projects to work on, you'll have plenty of opportunities to grow and challenge yourself as a consultant.

Your purpose:

Working within the Power New Build business, you will be supporting delivery on a number of client projects, either on behalf of Atkins or even based within the client’s organisation. The role will be versatile and encompass all stages of project delivery, from initial set up, to delivery of the finished project.

Within the Power New Build business our clients work in highly regulated nuclear environments and you will be directing your multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex and unique projects.

Main aspects of the role will include delivering radiation shielding or criticality safety assessments, assisting in the production of bids and proposals, and implementing and contributing to our safety culture, an environment we value so greatly.

What you can bring?

  • Science or engineering expertise (physics, chemistry, mechanical, chemical or process engineering, Degree qualified or equivalent)
  • Understanding and experience of industry recognised radiation transport codes such as; MCNP, MCBEND, RANKERN, MONK, SCALE, ATTILA.
  • Successful delivery of shielding and/or criticality assessments including development of key associated documentation such as Bulk/Detailed Shielding, Dose & ALARP or Criticality Safety Assessment Reports.
  • Experience working as a radiation shielding or criticality specialist within multi-disciplined project teams.

Teamwork and Leadership qualities:

  • An appreciation of what’s required for design, when working in safety critical industries, like Nuclear.
  • An appreciation of project and client management.
  • An understanding of the fundamental factors which contribute to business success.
