TransitNEXT is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin. SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce that TransitNEXT, has reached financial close on the Trillium Line Extension project. As the sole proponent in the TransitNEXT team, SNC-Lavalin will design, build, finance and maintain the new extension, and will also assume responsibility for the long-term maintenance of the existing Trillium Line.

Our Rail & Transit Engineering and Construction teams deliver systems solutions which include civil infrastructure, alignment and track, traction power and distribution, signalling and train control, and communications. One of the key components of our delivery is System Safety Assurance encompassing the engineering work required to deliver integrated railways which are safe, secure and fulfill their operational requirements to the satisfaction of our clients. SNC-Lavalin is currently delivering the extension and upgrade of the Trillium Line railway in Ottawa and has an opportunity for a System Safety Lead to help drive this exciting project. To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following for the project:

  • Managing the development of Safety Certification documentation
  • Managing the delivery of Safety Analysis and Assurance activities
  • Managing the delivery of Reliability, Availability and Maintainability activities
  • Interaction with the Client and other key stakeholders
  • Interaction with Design Management and Technical Leads
  • Interaction with Construction Management and Delivery Leads
  • Interaction with O&M/M&R Management and Support Leads
  • Interaction with the Systems Engineering and System Security activities
  • Support of Construction and Installation activities in the field
  • Support for Test & Commissioning activities

We are looking for a System Safety Assurance Engineer with an enthusiasm for complex multidisciplinary rail projects, who enjoys problem solving and finding solutions which meet the requirements of multiple stakeholders. If you are a system safety specialist in any part of the railway industry and have a good understanding of how complex multidisciplinary projects are delivered, then you are the type of person we want to join our team.

Skills and Expériences:

  • Essential – Knowledge of System Safety Assurance practices, processes and experience of putting them into action.
  • Essential – Experience in developing, documenting and evidencing safety and assurance arguments across the complete asset / project lifecycle.
  • Essential – Experience of light rail, metro or commuter railway systems, with specific project and System Safety Assurance knowledge and expertise in this domain.
  • Essential – Experience of multi-disciplinary project environments, people management and financial management.
  • Highly Desirable – Experience of the practical application of CENELEC processes.
  • Highly Desirable – Experience of the practical application of RAM processes.
  • Highly Desirable – Able to lead a team of System Safety and RAM professionals.
  • Highly Desirable – Able to lead discussions with the partners, clients and suppliers and to interact with senior discipline staff as overall delivery lead.
  • Essential – Excellent MS Office skills, especially Excel and Word.
  • Excellent written, presentation and communication/briefing skills; able to present to audiences of industry experts.
  • Excellent networking and client relationship management skills; able to influence and manage key stakeholders and build trust and advocacy with clients.
  • Excellent people management and interpersonal skills; able to engage staff and address difficult issue effectively and fairly.

Travel:

  • This role will be based in Ottawa and will be required to spend time on site
  • Must be willing to travel to supplier locations

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering
  • P.Eng designation is highly desirable.
