Reporting to the Shared Services Supervisor but directly assisting Quality Assurance Manager, the Technical Writer will work out of SNC-Lavalin Defence Program (SLDPI)s’ Parksville, BC office and assume a lead role in this business unit’s document revision process. The Technical Writer will help ensure that current Quality, Environmental Health and Safety (QEHS) documentation meets applicable ISO requirements as well as aligns with our worksite activities.
Responsibilities
- Become a Subject Matter Expert both in corporate and SLDPI’s QEHS guidance material
- Review SLDPI’s Integrated Management System (documentation) to establish a baseline
- Perform ongoing gap analyses on existing documentation
- Dialogue with SLDPI staff to ensure that job steps and workflow are accurately captured
- Update and/or create QEHS-related documentation, as required
- Assist in ensuring that relevant staff are aware of and trained on updated/new documentation
- Prepare and submit progress and other document revision related reports to the QAM
- Assist with SLDPI’s three-year audit plan, including the coordination of activities
- Assist in management of the 300 Documentation Library in SharePoint
- Contribute to other team efforts at the Parksville, BC office, if/as required
- Promote and foster a safety culture
- Set and meet schedules under the document revision process
- Promote continual improvement, especially with respect to SLDPI’s guidance documentation
Qualifications
- Certificate or Bachelor's Degree in English (note that an applicable work history may also be considered)
- Minimum of three years’ experience in reviewing, editing, and writing technical documentation
- Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Capable of multi-tasking, prioritizing, planning and scheduling with attention to detail
- Capable of succeeding within a fast-paced environment
- Competence in Microsoft Office 2013 (or higher), including Visio
- Familiarity with SharePoint 2013 or higher is an asset
- Familiarity with Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES4 (or higher) is an asset
- Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015, and 45001:2018 Standards is an asset
- Team Auditor certifications in the above Standards is an asset
- Possesses Federal Reliability security clearance, or able to obtain it
Working Conditions
- Occasionally (~5%) the work may involve being out-of-doors year-round and in all weather conditions
- Physically fit and able to move about on naval vessels (escorted, and only on occasion)
- Travel out-of-town may be required for up to one week several times per year
- Extended periods of sitting
- Extended computer work
- Occasional overtime may be required on occasion
