AtkinsRéalis is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Civil CAD Designer to join the Ft. Lauderdale, FL team. This designer will directly support the Civil Engineering group and will be a critical team member for many of our site development projects.

Our Ft. Lauderdale Civil CAD Designers do it all – grading, site plans, roads, utilities, stormwater.  They work on local, state and national projects and even projects overseas.  These projects consist of commercial, residential, medical, theme park, mixed use, aviation, ports, federal (civilian and military) and municipal (city, county and state) project types and range in size from small, medium, and large size projects.  Projects could also include master planning, design-bid-build, and design-build projects.  Our Civil CAD Designers work on, and may travel to projects throughout North America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.  They also work with other civil engineering groups in numerous offices across the US.  Come join AtkinsRéalis, where opportunities abound.

Our Fort Lauderdale office works on a variety of exciting projects for Federal agencies such as the, the US Army Corps of Engineers, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC), U.S Army; local and national clients such as Publix, City of Miami, Broward County, Broward County School District, Miami Dade County, Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD); State agencies such as South Florida Water Management District, Florida Turnpike Authority, Florida Department of Transportation,  and Florida Department of Environmental Protection; local municipalities; local school districts; local and national land developers; and many more clients too numerous to list.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Uses CAD systems to enter the required data, such as precise measurements and commands, in order to generate construction drawings, renderings, report graphics and other digital images.
  • Prepares complex layouts, drawings, and designs from written or verbal specifications or from rough or detailed sketches and/or drawings made by technicians, designers or technical professionals, converting paper documents into computerized files.
  • Produces various design options on the screen or in hard copy, following a designer's or technical professional's verbal instructions or ideas to assist in resolving a design concept not yet completely defined.
  • Uses CAD to redesign, modify, or otherwise edit existing design.
  • Makes minor mathematical calculations.
  • Checks final drawing to verify completeness, clarity, and accuracy.
  • Operates plotter to transfer developed drawings to an appropriate medium.
  • May diagnose and correct equipment problems and assist in the training of lower-level technicians and/or other personnel wishing to learn use of CAD equipment.
  • Provides technical assistance in troubleshooting CAD equipment and assist in training inexperienced CAD personnel.
  • Assist, maintain, and develop Office Wide and/or Group CAD Standards.
  • Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
  • Follow company wide QA/QC protocols for development of documents.

What will you contribute?

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) plus eight years related experience, OR
  • Associates Degree in a related technical field plus six years related experience.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications; good math and site civil CAD skills required.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.  MicroStation experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with 3D modeling with AutoCAD Civil 3D (grading, pipe networks, corridors, etc.) in order to produce plans and profiles for roadway and utilities.
  • Experience in civil site planning.
  • Experience with coordinating directly and/or attending Client meetings/conference calls.
  • Networking and collaboration.
  • Ability to deliver on time to meet project deadlines.
  • ARC GIS is a plus, but not required.
  • ProjectWise and Bluebeam knowledge and understanding is a plus, but not required.
