Atkins Nuclear & Power (Europe, Middle East & Africa Region) is looking to add a Commercial Manager to our high performing Commercial Management team. We are looking for someone who has experience of working in the Engineering Services sector and enjoys a variety of work including the delivery of commercial solutions and improvement initiatives.  With a desire to work in the Nuclear and Power sector you’ll enjoy approaching things in different ways to find the best possible fit – you like making improvements and consider different approaches, trying to find the best approach to fit whatever is the current context.

This role offers a significant platform for personal development and the opportunity to get involved in a variety of exciting projects, covering a broad spectrum of clients from Nuclear New Build, Operations and Decommissioning to innovative Energy Net Zero initiatives including hydrogen, carbon capture and smart grids.  We are seeking people who are keen to develop to their full potential to the mutual benefit of the individual, the team and the company.

Ideally the role would be based out of our Whitehaven (Cumbria), Warrington or Bristol offices and presents the opportunity to join a larger business distributed across the UK, Europe and Middle East with the opportunity to work with colleagues internationally through our Global Technology Centre.

Key responsibilities will include:

In a changing energy market, where the business is growing, we are seeking a Commercial Manager who can be at the forefront of leading and supporting the business in achieving its goals, whilst managing and balancing business risk.

The Role

Working for the Senior Commercial Managers / Director the key responsibilities of the role are identified as follows:

  • Providing high quality and efficient support to the markets and their teams, throughout the Win and Deliver work cycle
  • Leading on bid and project governance including ownership of escalated approvals systems
  • Reviewing contracts and other legal documents in co-ordination with the Legal function
  • Leading on and / or supporting the markets with contract negotiations
  • Development of business cases to support new initiatives (e.g. M&A, new markets, products, technologies and other investment cases)
  • Leading on the resolution of potential disputes and claims (project, insurance etc)
  • Delivery of key elements of the Risk and Commercial roadmap, supporting a wide array of commercial projects and business improvement initiatives
  • Active role in project procurement at both strategic business and project level (e.g. developing supplier and partnering strategies, setting the project procurement strategies and where required acting as project procurement manager etc)
  • Co-ordination of support functions such as Legal, HR, Tax and Treasury
  • Acting as an independent bid and project reviewer
  • Development and delivery of Lunch ‘n’ Learn, web-based and classroom training initiatives on Commercial and related topics
  • Managing internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintaining an understanding of ongoing developments in the market

The Person

There are two key aspects of the role, one will be developing and building strong relationships with internal clients, and another will be supporting the leadership, development and progression of the commercial function.   You’ll have the ability and the desire to manage teams and deliver all aspects of your work to a very high standard. You will be able to work both independently and within the team.   If you come from a utility, developer or consultancy background this will be an advantage.

You’ll need to have

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Science, Business or equivalent (mandatory)
  • Achieved Chartered status in relevant profession (desirable)

Mandatory Experience

Required experience in the following areas:

  • Corporate systems and processes
  • Commercial Governance
  • Bidding
  • Project and / or Business Finance
  • Contract Management
  • Project Delivery
  • Supply Chain Management

Desirable Experience

In addition to the mandatory requirements, we are also seeking candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in the Nuclear and Power Sector
  • International Working (France, Germany, China)
  • Tier 1 delivery
  • M&A
  • Project Management
