Chief Scheduler

This Chief Scheduler oversees the direction of a scheduling team or function within a group, office or region.  Develops and implements the scheduling business development plans and activities. Provides various planning/scheduling related tasks including preparing schedules, reviewing schedules prepared by consultants or contractors, and analyzing delay claims. This position will be remote with flexibility to travel as needed to a Project Site in Ontario, CA with anticipation as much as a week a month or up to three weeks a month. This position is based out of our office in Atlanta, GA and reports to the Senior Business Service Director.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Oversees the direction of a planning / scheduling team or function within a group, office or region.
  • Develops and implements the scheduling business development plans and activities.
  • Assigns and manages project staffing levels and workforce plans.
  • Supports the project team and stakeholders with time management and control.
  • Establishes criteria for schedule development (schedule detail, work breakdown structure [WBS], etc.).
  • Develops and updates summary level as well as detailed schedules.
  • Develops lists of design, procurement, construction and post construction activities based on review of design documents, examination of site conditions and discussions with Owners, design consultants and contractors.
  • Identifies major milestones, critical approvals and long lead procurement items.
  • Determines reasonable schedule logic and constraints based on discussion with task owners and/or teams.
  • Develops realistic activity durations based on production rates and available manpower based on discussion with task owners and/or teams.
  • Assigns resources (cost, labour or material) to activities and develops cash flow reports and resource histograms.
  • Evaluates critical and near critical path activity sequences.
  • Assesses actual progress based on site inspections.
  • Identifies schedule changes and trends.
  • Develops earned value reports.
  • Suggests corrective actions and/or develop recovery plans when delays are anticipated or occur.
  • Prepares time and cost delay claims.
  • Supports risk allocation and value engineering workshops.
  • Prepares scheduling specifications.
  • Review architect and contractor prepared schedules.
  • Prepares post construction as-built schedules and lessons learned reports.
  • Teaches scheduling techniques.
  • Provides senior level general project management support as necessary (e.g., financial/operational budgeting, consolidation, analysis, forecasting; business development; pricing; billing; key client/consultant relationship management).
  • Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Quantity Surveying or a related field
  • 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must be highly articulate, have clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision-making abilities.
  • Must have strong to excellent understanding of CPM (Critical Path Method) concepts and calculations; strong to excellent understanding of earned value concepts, calculations, and rules of credit; proficiency in Primavera scheduling products; and experience in analyzing contractor-prepared delay claims.
  • Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Must have experience with Primavera or Microsoft Projects.
  • Understand and utilize Information Technology in the performance of work including Internet, Intranet, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
